Hello hello! :D

Hi there!

I finally managed to bumble my way through the joining process and now I can lurk here! I'm a 36yo American woman living in the HML area, and have been here for 10+ years, but I have a lot of difficulty reading and writing in Finnish. Speaking... eh, conversational levels. So if you see me at a munch, I might be able to keep up, but I will probably stick around the English speaking areas of the forum and Discord.

I'm new to the Finnish kinkyscene, but I've been a rampant perv for quite a while. I'm married, and my husband is totally new to kinkiness, so consider us 'exploring and acclimating.' For now, only looking for friends! We attended the KF munch last week and had a wonderful time, so expect to see us out at the future munches! :D

My profile on Fetlife is more developed (same name), but I will eventually make myself comfortable here too!
I look forward to meeting fellow kinksters, and if there are other foreigners stuck primarily in English, you're always welcome to hang out with me at events if you find me. :3

Also, I apologise in advance for mistakes in Finnish, of which there will be many, as I tend to be confidently incorrect and easily confused.  ;D

Thank you kindly! I'm hoping that I will get more language practice by branching out to a Finnish forum, but I'm already terribly confused. xD It's been wild trying to follow conversations on Discord.  ;D

Thank you! I do ok in person, until I get confused and then I just start nodding and smiling, but I'm fairly certain there are babies with better writing skills than me.  ;D Maybe the forum will build some of my confidence, and ability!

Hello hello! And welcome!

I've been trying to learn Russian on Duolingo, and was wondering if this is what is feels like for people learning Finnish?
Russian and Finnish even have similar grammar so I can navigate it easily (the grammar part only, obviously).
Languages are fascinating.

I haven't checked it out in a long while, but when Duolingo first released Finnish, it was very rudimentary and repetitive stuff. Hopefully it's expanded since then, it's a very fun app. :] I don't have any experience with Russian, but having learned German and French years ago, I'd say the initial stages are pretty much the same when learning a new language. It's building on the fundamentals and creating more complex thoughts that things can become crazy. xD Finnish grammar cases are kinda wild but at least there isn't extra alphabets or ridiculous counting systems (French lol) to master.

I hope to gain more confidence in my abilities by interacting here and on the Discord, and being out at the parties and munches and in general around Finnish speakers might help hone my abilities. I doubt I'll be partaking in any kinky activities in Finnish any time soon, I'd sound like a fool!  ;D

Me being on the spektrum and learning new alphabets, duolingo is the perfect way to get a head start. It is very repetitive.

But with Swedish and Norwegian, Duolingo does nothing for me. I change subtitles into Norwegian when I can, it helps.

I learn languages to be able to read books and watch movies in those languages. Talking to people is a plus, not a must.

That's very true, with the repetition. I try the same thing with subtitles in Finnish, or just try to watch Finnish programs on TV, but I start to space out if I don't immediately understand what's going on. Some might notice that same trait if speaking to me in person at munches or parties!  ;D But in my case, speaking is more of a necessity so I can integrate better, if only to socialise with fellow kinksters and pervs. I feel guilty whenever I have to resort to English, as I've lived here for a long time, and even here on the forum there's frustration at my limited capacity of understanding. But I endure! And hopefully, little by little, I will expand my vocabulary, even if it's just naughty phrases and colorful speech!  ;D

Spacing out is like my default setting, hard to fight it.

I sometimes regret not staying in Norway when I had the change. At least for just few more years to learn to speak fluent Norwegian. But that train came and went.

Naughty and colorful absolutely sounds like a good way to stay motivated  ;D
