So, now you can get alcohol delivered to your door.
Dear Anyone, who has considered getting sober.
I don’t understand why you would? Your drinking brings you joy (maybe), a distraction, a way to pass time, drinking buddies and I’m sure many more perks I’m not aware of.
As someone who is not drawn to substances (not from the lack of trying) and have to live every day stone cold sober, I’ll tell you one thing. Life is a merciless bitch.
So drink up. Enjoy the benefits. Live in your own bubble, be merry. And if you get sick, you’ll probably suffer only a relatively short period of time. And then you’ll pass away. Now, if you happen to be a loner, now harm no foul, right? More power to you.
But some of you… with family and friends. You leave a void. And I’ve had a particularly bad day today, and this time I’m choosing violence. So I’m taking it out on all of you.
You get to pass away. You don’t have to watch your parents bury their child. Siblings grief for one of their own. Or your children navigate life as orphans. A decade or two might pass. There will be new milestones, celebrations, babies. Your absence is always present.
What they don’t tell you about grief is it will never fade away. And your dying didn’t mean the end of alcoholism, or it’s consequences. You did not pay for the consequences of your drinking by dying. You loved ones did and continues to pay for the rest of their days. It’s a heavy reality to carry. Most days we are just pretending to still care about paying our bills, eating, sleeping, climate change (can not get here fast enough).
You get to decompose.
Oh, Brother, how I envy you. Now excuse me while I go take care of your daughter.
Eat dirt.
